The Author

“Infatuated by shiny objects and new toys” is how Colby describes himself in one sentence fragment. Who knows what that means, but flashing lights will get his attention. Especially if they are bright colors.

In his free time, Colby enjoys breathing, random dance parties when his roommate blares T-Swift in the middle of studying, thinking about going to the gym, staring at books, and playing sports- usually hockey, football, baseball, or basketball (albeit mediocrely). He also likes to get creative in the kitchen and invent his own collegiate culinary masterpieces (as well as epic failures). If he offers to cook you anything that has ‘spicy’ in the title, bring your fire extinguisher.

Colby also enjoys typing in the third person and answering his own questions.

A Senior at the University of Missouri, Colby is earning two degrees: Bachelor of Journalism in Strategic Communication and Bachelor of Arts & Science in Sociology. He was on track to earn a business minor, with an extra semester, until he realized paying $12,000 for a business minor was awful business sense.

In Strategic Communication, Colby is interested in the blending worlds of advertising, public relations, and marketing. He likes to say that Strategic Communication is just a fancy way to say that, but he gets yelled at for that. He keeps saying it, but he thinks he might get slapped soon. Slapping is not cool, people.

A favorite pastime of Colby’s is people-watching. Some call this ‘creeping’, but as a student of Sociology, Colby calls it ‘research’. He is most interested in Sociology of the media, social deviance, and Sociology of conversation (a discipline he kind of created in his head- a mix of Sociology and Linguistics). Someday, Colby would like to assemble his own catalogue of social theory. It will probably just be clips from Wikipedia, but with a really cool cover.

Sometimes, Colby wonders why he came to the middle of Missouri for college. Then he remembers that he freaking loves it, and everything is pretty damn good with his life. He has no idea what the future holds, but he is pretty okay with that. Well, as long the future has cheese and Nerf guns.

Colby’s family consists of his mom, dad, and little sister, Casey. They live in Minnesota, where Colby grew up. His dad hates that place. Colby misses it everyday. Yes, even the ones that get below 0º.
